Looking out backwards
Just as his bus pulls away
He waves good bye once.
~
Grandpa is smiling
He is provoking the leaves
To burst in color.
~
Snow fell yesterday
And, I whirled as a child
Snow tracks inside, too.
~
His face holds sun light
This boy has cream on his cheek
He chews, wipes his nose.
~
Sleeping womb fashioned
Beneath a warm comforter
Mother cooks bacon.
~
Beautiful pine cone
Fallen, windswept to my door
Reaches quietly.
~
A single grass blade
Cuts easily through concrete,
Dogs bark at anything.
~
Undulating waves
Sounds above of hungry birds,
Toes digging in sand.
~
A voice among leaves
Blown loose—descending, lifting
A surprising song.
~
I heard a bird sing
Joyously outside against
A furious sky.
~
Blue ocean water
With perpetual movement.
Fish catch bright sun light.
~
Okinawa sun,
And clouds like cotton swabs hang
In a perfect sky.
Hope sounds like singing
Birds in the distant forest:
A quiet, soft song.
~
At recess I lose
My mind on the monkey bars
Whistle ends childhood.
~
When the spray bottle
Squirted water in my face
I stuck my tongue out.
~
The sound of laughter
From a child is like music
Made from bright sun shine.
~
When I was a boy
Four years old, I carried light
In my two fat cheeks.
~
Cheer Leader Boy
Imagine how brave
You must be to say, “Dad, I
Am a cheer leader.”
~
The balloon string slipped
From the fingers of the child.
He cried once then laughed.
~
Pregnant clouds produced
Rain that fell on thirsty ground.
Birds wait for puddles.
~
The sun was orange
So big and round in the sky
With hues of purple.
~
Smiling is easy
And then we belly laugh hard
No time for thinking.
~
My mom says she loves
me. But, she always gets mad.
I am not enough.
~
It’s never enough
What my parents do for me.
I don’t understand.
